El Ventorrillo Murciano
Tucked away on a narrow street in the Lavapiés neighborhood, this tiny restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine inspired by the Spanish coast and countryside. Exposed brick, cane-bottom chairs, and earth-toned tiles give the dining room a farmhouse feel that suits the restaurant's traditional, country-style paella made with snails and rabbit. Influenced by the coastal city of Murcia as well as the chefs' Moroccan and Latin American roots, the eclectic menu also includes North African meat pie and seafood dishes such as arroz negro (black rice) with shrimp, squid, and squid ink. The wine list emphasizes vintages from Jumilla and Alicante.
After your meal, walk about half a mile east to the Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid (Royal Botanical Garden of Madrid) to stroll amid the 30,000 plants and 1,500 trees.
