Arola Madrid
Part restaurant and part nightclub, Arola Madrid is located in the Museo Reina Sofia (Queen Sofia Museum), which houses a renowned collection of 20th-century art, including Picasso’s Guernica. Designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, the restaurant contains a reflective red ceiling, futuristic furniture, and glass wall panels. The menu, created by celebrated local chef Sergi Arola, includes inventive Mediterranean tapas such as jamón ibérico carpaccio (Iberian ham carpaccio) and deconstructed papas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce). Wednesday through Sunday evenings, a live DJ transforms the restaurant into a dance club.
Insider Tip:
After your meal, head upstairs to the museum’s rooftop terrace (open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) and enjoy panoramic views of Retiro Park and the Lavapiés neighborhood.
