From Spanish monarchs and popes to sports stars and bullfighters, the Wax Museum displays more than 450 life-sized figures. Many are dressed in original clothing, including the likenesses of Cuba's Fidel Castro and Spanish dictator General Franco. A kid-friendly cartoon gallery includes models of The Simpsons, Spiderman, and Toy Story characters, as well as historical scenes like Christopher Columbus leaving for his trans-Atlantic voyage. The museum, which opened in 1972, also has a space-themed virtual reality simulator, a terror train ride that passes gruesome scenes rendered in wax, and a Spanish history presentation.
Spain’s national library lies on the opposite side of Paseo Recoletos.
