Things to do in Lyon
It's tempting to just eat your way through this gastronomic city—but there are plenty of other things to do in Lyon. Consider these:
Museums. Art lovers will find museums here that rival the biggest institutions in Paris. The Lyon Fine Arts Museum houses works by Degas, Cezanne and Renoir.
Visit the Institut Lumiere. Come here to see why Lyon is considered the birthplace of cinematography: native sons Louis and August Lumiere shot the first known film here in Lyons in the late 19th century
Hike, Paddle or Schuss. What to do in Lyon if you're an outdoor enthusiast? With two rivers coursing through the city, many tourists and locals take boat rides or go canoeing in the summertime. Or, take a day trip to hike (or, come winter, ski) in the Alps.
Wine Tasting. To inform your choice of wine at your next dinner back in town, take a side trip from the city for a tour and tasting at one of the many Rhone Valley vineyards. Your next challenge, then, will just be what to do in Lyon for that next meal.
The market hosts La Cave à Fromages where wheels of Parmigiano-Reggiano and Comté line the walls of a cavernous cheese cellar. Don’t miss the fresh chèvre infused with olive oil from the southern Ardèche.
