Harry's Café and Steak
After closing the original Harry's in 2003, the son of the original owner reopened and revived the space in 2006 by dividing it into two parts: one part formal steakhouse, one part casual café. The copper ceilings and leather banquets were all restored and a modern sound system and cutting-edge cocktail list were added, though the menu still follows the classic steakhouse format developed by Greek immigrant Harry Poulakakos, who opened the original in 1972. A Wall Street legend, Harry's has been mentioned in novels such as Bonfire of the Vanities and American Psycho.
Insider Tip:
Founder Harry Poulakakos, a beekeeper from Sparta, Greece, opened Harry’s at Hanover Square after a 14-year management stint at New York institution Oscar's Delmonico's.
