Maureen Paley
London, England, E2 6JT, United Kingdom
Mesmerizing photographs by Turner Prize-winner Wolfgang Tillmans, earthy sculptures by Rebecca Warner, and chaotic installations by Anne Hardy are just a few of the exhibits that have taken place at the Maureen Paley contemporary art gallery since its opening in 1984. Originally established in London’s East End, the gallery relocated in 1999 to a quiet street in Bethnal Green, where an unassuming silver door conceals a world of cutting-edge creativity. A reflection of Paley’s taste, which tends toward the dark and the mysterious, the gallery has also represented artists Gillian Wearing, Liam Gillick, and Seb Patane.
Insider Tip:
Maureen Paley is within walking distance of the Herald Street Gallery and within two miles of the Whitechapel Gallery, so you can easily compose your own mini gallery crawl.
