Noted for its undulating glass roof, Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 opened in 2008 and is the global hub used exclusively by British Airways. Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners, the terminal is five times the size of Terminal 4 and the largest freestanding building in the United Kingdom. The four-story structure consists of steel and glass facades tilted 6 ½ degrees toward the vertical, giving the building its unusual shape. The terminal has 60 aircrafts stands and more than 100 restaurants and shops, including Harrods, Prada, Tiffany & Co., and Paul Smith’s Globe.
If you’re pressed for time, stop by Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food restaurant to pick up a gourmet “plane picnic,” served in a small carryon bag.
