Hacienda Sepúlveda, a boutique hotel fashioned from buildings constructed in 1684, is well-suited for active travelers in search of unexpected escapes. Located in Mexico’s arid northeastern state of Jalisco, an hour and a half from Guadalajara, the ranch is several miles down a lonesome road, amid grain fields roamed by roosters, hens, and peacocks—and horses available for riding. Many of the 23 rooms have wood-burning stoves and are decorated with antiques and indigenous art collected around the country by the Serrano family, which has owned the property for three generations.
