La Latina, Asturias + Lavapiés
Taberna Almendro 13
On a quiet corner off one of La Latina’s busy tapas-hopping thoroughfares, Almendro 13 is far from undiscovered—in fact, it buzzes. But that’s part of its allure. Vying for a spot at one of the tables made from overturned barrels in the small yellow dining room with harvest-theme murals is a sport. The huge, shareable plates include grilled jamón sandwiches and the house specialty, huevos con pisto (eggs with ratatouille), which comes over a bed of thinly sliced potatoes and dressed (or not) with a sprinkling of Serrano ham. Everyone drinks cañas, small glasses of the beer on tap, or white wine from tiny tumblers—nothing else is available, apart from water.
Insider Tip:
Have one person in your party move for a table while another places the order. And don’t worry about being polite!
