Things to do in Kuala Lumpur

There are endless possibilities for things to do in Kuala Lumpur, from shopping designer labels in mega-malls to appreciating the ornate art at the Islamic Arts Museum to sun tanning on the white, sandy beaches. Every discussion of what to do in Kuala Lumpur should begin with, “how can we get there?” because the traffic in KL is notoriously horrendous. It’s best to walk or train as much as possible. Once you get past the transportation, the options are infinite. The many stunning temples in the city are not to be missed. From the Hindu Sri Mahamariamman Temple, where locals make offerings of flower garlands to the brightly painted deities, to the Chinese Thean Hou Temple, which houses beautiful and ornate alters with fragrant incense permeating the enormous complex. Of course, world-class shopping tops many people’s lists of things to do in Kuala Lumpur, both the many mega-malls and the local craft markets. If you are in town in November, hit the massive end of the year sales when you can catch international fashionistas carrying designer items out of stores by the cartload.
