Broadway veteran Walter Hartwig and wife Maude debuted their repertory theatre in 1937, and “America’s foremost summer theatre” continues to endure in southeast Maine. Name actors like Sally Struthers, Rue McClanahan, and Lorenzo Lamas have all performed on stage in the green roofed building, which resides behind a well-manicured lawn and bushes treated to a touch of topiary. During season, which runs from late-May to late-October, the theatre produces five musicals. Past performances have included My Fair Lady, Hairspray, and A Chorus Line.
