Kennebunkport + The Southern Beaches
Maine Diner
This instant institution has been open along Highway One since 1983. The low-slung white building with a blue awning flies a series of flags along the roof, including the U.S., Canada, and of course Maine. The Henry family has constructed a sprawling menu over the years, with Yankee comfort food like lobster pie, seafood chowder, and thin sliced London broil. For dessert, the restaurant serves a regional classic, Indian pudding, which combines corn meal with molasses, cream, butter, brown sugar, ginger, and cinnamon.
Insider Tip:
Maine Diner is a short drive from The Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, which provides seven miles of coastal trails and opportunities to learn about life in the estuary, where fresh river water meets salt water from the Gulf of Maine.
