Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge

321 Port Rd.
Wells, ME, 04090, United States
TEL: (207) 646-9226

Encompassing over 5,000 acres of salt marshes filled with migratory birds, maritime forests, and coastal dunes, the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge was named in honor of the birder and naturalist who first brought many environmental issues to the forefront in the 1960s. The refuge spans 50 miles along the Maine shore and is broken into various sections. Boardwalks, easy walking trails, covered overlooks with bench seating, and scenic viewing points make this natural area accessible to all, affording views not only of many species of birds and other wildlife, but also of the Atlantic Ocean.

Insider Tip:

Stop in at the Maine Diner on Route 1 for a Lobster Pie before or after your trip to Rachel Carson.
