Named after the Japanese word for “friend,” Hotel Tomo is a colorful, anime-themed boutique property located in Japantown. Inside, the light wood lobby contains a plush blue island, a pop art—inspired ceiling mural, and vending machines that dispense Giant Robot T-shirts and stuffed animals. Each of the 125 guestrooms includes anime-style figurines and dolls as well as light knotty pine furniture, white globe lights, and cartoonlike wall murals by acclaimed artist Heisuke Kitazawa. The hotel’s restaurant, Mums, is known for its all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu: rib eye steak, fresh vegetables, and noodles cooked tableside in an iron hot pot.
Room to Book:
For the quietest stay, request a room facing the domed inner courtyard.
Insider Tip:
The hotel provides paid parking, but you can find cheaper parking at the nearby Japan Center Garage, only a four-minute walk away.
