Develi
West of the central tourist area of Sultanahmet, the neighborhood of Samatya is home to this long-time area restaurant. Develi has been serving southeast Anatolian cuisine to locals and expats since 1966. Nuts, bulgur, pomegranate molasses are imported from the region and use to craft such dishes as stuffed, dried eggplants; pistachio kebab; and lahmacun (Turkish pizza). The terrace on the top floor has space for up to 400 people and panoramic views of the Marmara Sea.
Insider Tip:
It may be tempting to take a post-dinner stroll along the ancient Byzantine walls outside the restaurant, but at night, they are not always well-lit and sometimes home to derelicts.
