Near the base of Diamond Head—the extinct volcanic crater about three miles west of Waikiki—a steady stream of surfers and hikers make their way down a paved hillside path leading to a gorgeous shoreline, occasionally dotted (discretely) with one of the area’s multi-million dollar mansions. It’s not the most ideal beach for swimming due to the rocky reef that comes up to shore, but the tradeoff is perfect sunset views and empty, wide open spaces for picnics and sunbathing.
