The New England town of Harwich, near the elbow of Cape Cod, is known for its cranberry bogs, kettle-hole ponds, and maritime history. But Harwich’s location—facing the calm Nantucket Sound—is the reason beach-going travelers head to the undiscovered town every summer. The best bed is at Platinum Pebble, an 1831 sea captain’s house that has operated as an inn continuously since the 1940s. This April, the Pebble reopened under new management and with a high-end gut renovation that made the rooms bigger and brighter, while still preserving the house’s original wood floors and Greek Revival crown moldings. The innkeepers’ design sensibility is on display in the eight rooms, all decorated in a palette of black and white, and featuring Moooi vases and chairs by Kartell and Le Corbusier. An ever-changing roster of guests can be found lounging by the pool, departing for a 15-minute stroll to the nearest beach, or heading down the road to the Ocean House, one of the Cape’s best restaurants.

Room to Book:

None of the rooms are named or numbered, but the superior room with the large tub is the only one with a private poolside area.
