Things to do in Hamburg

There is a plethora of activities to do in Hamburg, especially on the Alster. If you prefer to be outside, you can rent sailboats or rowboats, depending on your budget. If you are into biking, you can rent a bike and go on a guided tour or just bike along the sidewalk near the street; there is a space allocated just for bicyclists. There are also parks for jogging.

The Hamburgische Straatsoper is a beautiful theater where operas and ballet are performed, and is a wonderful place for a romantic date with your spouse on your visit to Hamburg.

Hamburg has a vast array of shops in which to spend your money. Although not as rich as other cities in Germany, Hamburg does have the most shopping malls in the country, so you are bound to find the perfect shop to indulge your shopping habit.

Rich in history, Hamburg offers museums and historical sites. For a sobering learning experience, head to Konzentrationslager Neuengamme for a look at the city's tragic past, where a concentration camp once stood. The memorial will put your life into perspective.

Every afternoon, do not miss out on the traditional Kaffe und Kuchen, or Coffee and Cake. Seek out the oldest shops in the neighborhood to find the best cakes!
