You might say that this St. Lucia hotel, with hilltop views of the Caribbean Sea and neighboring island, Martinique, has two distinct personalities. Thanks to its location on the island’s northern coast, the 49-room hacienda, a former 1,500-acre sugar plantation, exudes a sense of peace and quiet. Rustic-chic rooms are done up in white, mango, and deep coral, with hand-painted tiles on private terraces; airy public spaces are lined oil paintings by St. Lucian painter Sir Dunstan St. Omar, who also designed the country’s national flag. But come Friday evening, the resort is just minutesfrom the island’s “jump-ups,” well-known Friday night street parties at various locations around Gros Inlet. These all-inclusive parties, populated by locals and tourists alike, are highlighted by a lively combination of reggae, street vendors, barbecue chicken, and local Piton beer.

Room to Book:

Villa 22 has its own Spanish-style courtyard and pool, plus views of Smuggler’s Cove and the Caribbean Sea.

Insider Tip:

Order a dark-rum-based “Planter’s Punch” at Rock Maison, the hotel’s wooden deck, and your drink will arrive from the main bar via zip line.
