Things to do in French Polynesia

Visiting French Polynesia should be equal parts relaxing and exciting and, luckily, there’s a great balance of those two elements on the islands. Those seeking adventurous things to do in French Polynesia will find plenty of opportunities to snorkel, feed sharks, paraglide, jet ski, deep sea fish, hike and surf (or watch others surf) along the many lovely beaches that dot French Polynesia.

Or if you’re looking for more relaxing things to do in French Polynesia, consider touring local pineapple and vanilla plantations or sipping locally-made wine at the vineyard on the island of Rangiroa. And those with a penchant for the historical should be sure to visit islands like Raiatea, Mangareva and Maupiti, which are all home to some of French Polynesia’s oldest structures and historical sites or touring The Museum of Tahiti and the Islands, which is home to a wonderful collection of Polynesian artifacts. Or you can fully immerse yourself in local culture by visiting in July and participating in the Heiva Festival, a celebration of all things Polynesian complete with long distance canoe races between the many islands. And if you should find yourself bored or overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to ask French Polynesia’s many friendly locals to provide some guidance. They’re always ready and willing to help out visitors to their beautiful home.
