Opened in September 1971, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts serves as a memorial to the former president and is dedicated to fulfilling his commitment to the arts by hosting various musical, theatrical, and cultural programs each year. Through the Arts for Everyone program, the venue offers 400 free programs a year, but the center also hosts well-known annual awards programs, including The Kennedy Center Honors and The Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, both of which are broadcast on television.
