features

Great value, Family-friendly, Off the beaten path

When you've had your fill of frescoes, head over to the excellent Archaeological Museum to discover more abut Florence before the Medicis. The exhibits here go way back to Florence's Etruscan and Roman history; if you want in-depth information, the guided tours (also in English) are worth taking. Highlights include the superb collection of Etruscan coins, funerary sculpture, jewelry, and bronzes; two of the most celebrated pieces are the bronze Chimera, a mythical beast that is a lion/goat/snake hybrid and the 1st Century BC Orator. The Egyptian collection includes several sarcophagi complete with shriveled mummies; the kids will love it.
