The late Stefano Bemer famously taught Daniel Day-Lewis to make shoes while the actor was living in Florence in 1999; his bespoke shoe brand lives on today housed in a deconsecrated chapel in the hip San Niccolò neighborhood. Come here for exquisitely crafted men's footwear fashioned in 40 basic styles from cowhide, cordovan, kudu, suede, French 'anilveau,' shark, elephant, hippopotamus, crocodile, sting-ray, lizard, and ostrich. Prices for the ready-to-wear collection start at $1,312 for loafers; for custom made models (production takes 10-12 weeks), the sky's the limit.
