Trattoria Armando
Florence, 50123, Italy
Just a little off the beaten path on Borgo Ognissanti near the Communal Theater, the family-run Trattoria Armando offers cucina casaligna (homemade food) in a narrow dining room decorated with autographed photos of the opera stars who've eaten there. The authentic menu is filled with traditional Tuscan dishes, such as fritto alla fiorentina (breaded, fried vegetables and meat), pappa al pomodoro (tomato bread soup), and coccio caldo e funghi porcini (porcini mushrooms in sheep's cheese).
Insider Tip:
A word to the squeamish: the popular Tuscan specialty on the menu, cervello di vitella, is calf's brain.
