A literal hole-in-the-wall in the centro storico (historic district), I Fratellini is a tiny fiaschetteria (wine tavern) that sells affordable wines by the glass as well as panini made with fresh local ingredients. Resembling a newsstand, the six-foot-wide storefront contains a long wooden counter, a back wall lined with Italian wine bottles, and no seating whatsoever. Patrons simply stand or sit along the cobblestoned street, resting their wine glasses on numbered wooden shelves mounted to the exterior wall. Of the 25-plus sandwich options, top sellers include the wild boar salami with goat cheese and the truffled pecorino cheese with rocket.
After lunch at I Fratellini, head 15 minutes south to Vivoli, long considered one of the best gelato shops in the city.
