Florence
Trattoria Garga
Established more than three decades ago by Florentine chef Guiliano Garga and his Canadian-born wife Sharon Oddson, Trattoria Garga is known as a colorful place: vivacious chefs in the open kitchen; contemporary (somewhat irreverent) frescoes on the walls; and a loud, convivial atmosphere in the tiny dining room, which contains fewer than a dozen tables. The house specialty is the pasta magnifico (magnificent pasta)—homemade linguini with a cream sauce of brandy, citrus zest, mint, and Parmagiano cheese. In addition to co-owning the restaurant, Sharon Oddson also hosts cooking classes and culinary tours of Tuscany.
Insider Tip:
If you want to try Sharon’s signature homemade cheesecake, arrive early and ask your server to reserve a piece for you—it sells out quickly.
