Though it’s just two miles south of Florence’s city center, this genteel family estate is set amid the woodlands, vines, and olive groves that herald the start of the Chianti region. Owners Paola and Claudio Bulleri, who turned their classic tile-roofed villa into an exclusive inn in the ‘70s, still live on the property in a separate cottage (Signora Paola still conducts cooking classes upon request). Their son, Lorenzo, now manages the property’s nine guest rooms—which, with their floral fabrics, overstuffed sofas, and Oriental rugs on parquet floors, combine a sense of homey comfort and refined rusticity. So do the intimate, terracotta-tiled pool and the daily buffet breakfast, served in a light-filled gazebo.

Arrive in a rental car to take advantage of the location: it's 1.2 miles from Florence (so you can avoid the hassle of constant taxis) and 3 miles from a highway (so you can explore Tuscany).
