Le Volpi e L'Uva
A squeeze of a wine bar with a faithful local following, 'the Fox and the Grapes' is a great place to sample wines from some of Italy's lesser-known regions. The owners are committed to seeking small producers from all over the country, resulting in a constantly evolving list that always has something interesting to offer. On any given day there will be a selection of around 30 wines by the glass ranging from punchy Sicilian reds to the crisp, fruity whites of the mountainous Alto Adige in the north. Aside from platters of top-notch cheeses and cold cuts, the tempting snack menu includes a choice of grilled 'crostoni,' slabs of rustic bread topped with melting cheese and, maybe, truffle-spiked sausage or honey-drizzled speck. A perennial favorite in Florence.
