Ideal for first-time visitors, this four-story hotel is within walking distance of the wharf and less than two miles from the Embarcadero and Union Square. Originally built in the mid 1970’s, the hotel was extensively renovated in 2009, introducing a tasteful beach theme. The lobby features warm wood paneling and bright orange armchairs, while the 531 guestrooms have neutral furnishings accented with pink, blue, and yellow pillows as well as striped carpets and petal-shaped mirrors. There’s also an outdoor pool and “living room” with glass-enclosed fire pits, a perfect place to sip cocktails from the Spressi Martini & Sushi Bar.

Traffic noise is a problem here, so request a top-floor room that does not face North Point Street.

The on-site Sol Breakfast Café is pricey, so consider walking to Boudin Bakery inside Baker’s Hall instead. Known for its bread, the bakery has an outdoor fireplace with views of the wharf.
