People have been drawn to waters of Black Point Cove just west of today’s Fisherman’s Wharf since President Fillmore annexed it in 1850. The Works Progress Administration built an aquatic park bathhouse here, which today houses a museum dedicated to the maritime history of the city. Outside in the park, there are eight authentic ships from the turn of the 20th century to explore, with a docent or not, and a three-quarters mile path along the water. Sea chantey fans can join the monthly sing-along (and drink hot cider) on the first Saturday evening of each month.
