Things to do in Fiji

While the natural beauty of Fiji's islands will likely capture your attention first, there is more than white sand beaches to hold your interest. The following stops will help you dive below the surface, sometimes literally, to get to know the islands, their people, and their environment.

  • Koroyanitu National Park on Vitu Levu has miles of trails with views of the Mamanucas and Yasawas. There are also six villages within the park and overnight stays can be arranged for a closer look at Fijian life.
  • The Fiji Museum in Suva covers 3,000 years of Fijian history and has examples of handicrafts and art, both ancient and present day.
  • Swim with the sharks, eight different species of them, at one of the preserves that are encouraging Fijians to view these threatened species as a valuable resource.
  • More than a third of Fiji's population is of Indian ancestry, a legacy of British rule, and the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi is a superb example of traditional southern Indian architecture in an unexpected location. The Mariamma Temple in Suva hosts a fire-walking festival every July and August.
