Grosse Point Lighthouse

2601 Sheridan Rd.
Evanston, IL, 60201, United States
TEL: (847) 328-6961

Rising 113 feet above the shore of Lake Michigan, the Grosse Point Lighthouse provides panoramic views of the water, as well as Chicago skyscrapers, the Baha’i temple, and Northwestern University. Towering over the light keeper’s house, the structure was first built in 1873 to guide ships safely into Chicago’s harbor. Today, the lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark that also includes a nature center and a small maritime museum. The grounds are open year-round, with lighthouse tours available on weekend afternoons from June through September. The rest of the year, weekday tours are available by appointment.

Insider Tip:

After visiting the lighthouse, stop by the neighboring Evanston Art Center to check out three free art galleries, which display contemporary work by both students and professional artists.
