East Village
Gruppo
Between 12th and 11th St.
New York, NY, 10009, United States
Even those not in the neighborhood don't mind the trek over to the East Village for the ultra-thin crust of Gruppo’s pies. A simple red awning with the restaurant’s name beckons those off Ave. B into the low-lit dining room with exposed brick walls and wooden tables, typical of a pizzeria. Somewhere between crunchy, cracker-thin, and chewy, the crust steals the show despite the fact that the toppings are incredibly fresh (think melting, round slices of mozzarella, garden roma tomatoes, and chopped basil).
Insider Tip:
If you’re not familiar with the city, the walk from the subway includes an area that is a little rough, so you may want to consider taking a cab.
