Ninth Street Espresso keeps it simple: they serve specialty coffee. Opened in 2001, this flagship location in Alphabet City is marked only by a black awning with a white coffee cup, and the wrought-iron fence is often adorned with bikes. The general tone is hip and austere, catering to the coffee connoisseur and laptop-working crowd. Don’t come to chat and don’t ask for your espresso to-go or on ice. Coffee purists know better, and even if you’re not one, you can’t argue with the taste of the coffee made by those who are at Ninth Street. A limited food menu is available.
