Attending a true Dublin “trad session”—a group jam session featuring instruments like violin, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and uilleann pipes—is a memorable event. But though there are numerous trad offerings around Temple Bar, most are touristy, glitzy affairs that bear little resemblance to the real thing. More authentic experiences can usually be found at O’Donoghues and The Cobblestone—both of which host musicians seven nights a week. Sessions at Devitts and the Palace Bar  are more occasional, but just as good.
