Dublin

Palace Bar

Fleet St.
Dublin, Ireland
TEL: 353-1-677-9290

One of the oldest pubs in Dublin, the Palace Bar was once frequented by such renowned writers as James Joyce, Flann O’Brien, and R.M. Smyllie, former editor of the Irish Times. Just a short walk from the newspaper’s offices, the bar served as a gathering spot for the local literati since its founding in 1823. Today, the Victorian pub remains largely unchanged, with original stained-glass windows, walls lined with newspaper drawings from the 1940’s, and an aged mahogany bar stocked with more than 100 Irish whiskeys, including the pub’s own brand. On weekends, live bands perform traditional Irish music upstairs.

Insider Tip:

On your way to the bar, stop for dinner at Gallagher’s Boxty House, just a two-minute walk away on Temple Bar. The restaurant is renowned for its authentic Irish fare.
