Dublin + The East
Portmarnock Hotel & Golf Links
Located on the coast of Portmarnock, also known as the Velvet Strand, this hotel was originally built in 1847 as a private mansion for the Jameson Whiskey family. Today, the building retains the grandeur of the 19th century with original oak paneling and high ceilings hung with crystal chandeliers. The 136 guest rooms are more contemporary, with dark-wood furniture, modern floral prints, and large windows facing the Irish Sea or the world-renowned golf course designed by Bernhard Langer. The property is also home to the Jameson Bar and the Osbourne Brasserie, which specializes in local Irish fare.
Room to Book:
Beachfront rooms on the ground floor look out onto a grassy bank rather than the sea, so make sure to request a higher level if you want a view of the water.
Insider Tip:
Traveling to Dublin via taxi is expensive; for a cheaper ride, catch the bus just outside the hotel.
