Thurston's Lobster Pound

About a 30-minute drive from the tourist traps of Bar Harbor, this no-frills waterfront seafood joint specializes in reasonably priced, freshly caught lobsters. Overlooking the boats on Bass Harbor, Thurston’s is set on a working dock with a bright yellow awning, a two-story screened-in porch, and heaps of lobster traps. Diners handpick a lobster from the large glass tank, and it’s soon delivered on a paper dish with a side of drawn butter as well as mussels or clams, corn on the cob, and a pint of local beer. Thurston's is open seasonally, from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.
