Nhu Lan
Open 24 hours and usually packed for nearly all of them, Nhu Lan is one of the city’s most accomplished bakeries—but the real draw are the banh mi thit paté. These hearty sandwiches, which are quite the trend in America as well, are filled with a velvety pork-liver paté, ham, pickled carrots and radishes, fresh cilantro, and chiles, and served on Nhu Lan’s own thick baguettes. There’s a dining room inside, but most customers order the sandwiches to go—or just devour them while standing on the sidewalk.
