One of the West's largest art institutions, the Denver Art Museum has been showcasing collections in its 210,000–square-foot North Building since the 1970s, and in 2006, the DAM completed the 146,000-square-foot Frederic C. Hamilton Building, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. Both Uptown constructions display an array of art, from Renaissance paintings to Prehistoric pottery. The prized collection, though, is the American Indian art, as DAM was the country's first museum to begin collecting it. You'll also find kid activities through the facilities, and there is a special interactive pottery exhibition on the first floor of the Hamilton Building.

If you have an opening in your schedule near the beginning of the month, the Denver Art Museum offers free admission on first Saturdays.
