Umami, San Francisco

This izakaya on Webster Street in the Marina/Cow Hollow district serves sushi and Japanese cuisine with a focus on organic, sustainable ingredients and cage-free eggs. Inside a lighted glass-and-metal building, Umami has a rustic wood floor, a long, wooden community table with benches, and red padded stools at the bar. Chef Akira Yoshizumi’s menus include the popular miso-glazed black cod and the udon carbonara. Fish arrives fresh from the Tsukiji Market in Tokyo Thursday through Saturday. The restaurant is open every evening with a Sumo (happy) Hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
