Features
Quirky/offbeat, Family-friendly, Off the beaten path

Known colloquially as the Balls, these gabbro, limestone, and sandstone spheres are some of the best known (and most mysterious) sculptures from the region. Costa Rica finally opened this Southern Zone museum in the town of Sierpe to honor the fascinating Stone Spheres of Diquís, of which there are more than 300. Some of the oldest spheres date back to the 300s, and nobody knows precisely how, or why, they were created.
