Ever since Noma was elected the world’s best restaurant in 2010—a crowning it held onto in 2011, 2012, and 2014—foodies from all over the world have been flooding Copenhagen's restaurants. Whether or not they get a reservation at Noma—though one of the best restaurants in Copenhagen, it will close at the end of 2016 and reopen as an urban farm—they won’t leave disappointed. A plethora of former Noma chefs have opened their own restaurants around the city, continually coming up with new interpretations of the new nordic cuisine. Amass, Relæ, and Radio are all run (at least partly) by Noma alumni. Prepare to eat moss, fir cones and ants—and to love it.

Another dominant trend among places to eat in Copenhagen is the baby boom: many a Michelin restaurant has opened a baby brother of a restaurant serving food that is less expensive, less formal, and less dogmatic. Kadeau’s Eldorado, AOC’s No.2, and Formel B’s Uformel are all examples of more playful and relaxed restaurants serving excellent food at surprisingly low prices.

It’s not all new and nordic, though—like many other cities, the city has been hit by the Latin American food craze, and Copenhagen restaurants like Taller, Llama, and Hija de Sanchez (the most hyped foot stall in the city) you can enjoy fine Peruvian, Venezuelan, and Mexican cuisine. French and Italian restaurants are also popular.
