Hotels in Copenhagen

It perhaps says something about the Danish character that this wealthy capital doesn't have an abundance of luxury or trendy hotels. It, by and large, lacks hotels that are big on glitz and bling. One exception to the general rule of understated modesty is the Copenhagen hotel that comes closest to being a true grand dame, the Hotel D'Angleterre, which first opened in 1755. All 90 rooms and suites at this hotel near the Royal Palace were renovated and refurbished prior to the hotel reopening in 2013. At another extreme is the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, across from the entrance to Tivoli Gardens, which may be more familiar to students of architecture and design as the SAS Royal Hotel. First opened in 1960 and designed by Arne Jacobsen, his egg chairs still dot the lobby and room 606 has been left exactly as it was in Jacobsen's day.

Located in the Tivoli Gardens, Hotel Nimb is housed in Danish architect Knud Arne Petersen's striking, 1909 Moorish-inspired structure, which features a central onion-dome tower, decorative minarets, and arched colonnades illuminated at night by thousands of tiny bulbs.

Designed by the famed Arne Jacobsen in 1960, the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen has revamped itself over the years and now stands as a tribute his work through details like the Jacobsen Swan and Egg chairs that dot the lobby.
