Celiano Godin began selling pianos in Quetta (now part of Pakistan) in 1900 and opened his first Delhi showroom in 1940 near Kashmiri Gate. The shop eventually relocated to Connaught Place, where it’s now a beloved local landmark. Elton John purportedly bought a piano here, but these days Godin’s deals equally in sitars, harmoniums, and other classical Indian instruments (Ravi Shankar is another famous customer). The elderly musicians who staff the place are as charming as the musty old shop itself.
