Connaught Place

Humayun’s Tomb

East Nizamuddin
Three miles south of Connaught Place
Delhi, India

Built during the 1560s in honor of India’s second Moghul emperor, this magnificent monument is perhaps Delhi’s most awe-inspiring sight. Its architecture—with red sandstone arches and slender minarets topped by a soaring white marble dome—was, famously, the inspiration for the Taj Mahal. After visiting the tomb, be sure to spend some time wandering the property’s 30 acres of elaborate Persian gardens.
