This 200-year-old colonial mansion, on a peaceful cul-de-sac in the middle of bustling Colombo, has been converted into Sri Lanka’s most glamorous new hotel. In each of the 12 suites, original details—floral-pattern mosaic floors, hand-carved ceilings, ornate balconies—are set off with such contemporary touches as freestanding copper tubs and waterfall showers. Curvy glass daybeds in the courtyard surround a pink-tiled pool. In the lounge, raw- silk–wrapped sofas front a polished cement wall. Hate to tear yourself away? The airport transfer in the hotel’s vintage Austin is consolation.
