Chobe National Park
Savute Elephant Camp
Savuti Chobe National Park, Botswana
TEL: (800) 957-6137
Set alongside the wildlife-rich savannas of Chobe National Park, this luxury tented camp has something special to celebrate this year: the 2010 return of water to the Savute Channel—Chobe’s major waterway—after a three-decade absence. The newly flowing river has brought African fish eagles, crocodiles, and a new abundance of wildlife to the park—so, although it’s popular with other area safari lodges, the preserve now hosts more than enough cheetahs, lions, hyenas, zebras, and Cape buffalo for everyone to see. The elephant camp (so named because of its proximity to a watering hole popular with the area’s large herd of Kalahari elephants) has 12 cushy elevated tents with AC, open-air porches, and expansive baths—plus a fabulous boma (traditional fire-pit dining area) for gathering at night
Room to Book:
No. 1 is the most tranquil.
Insider Tip:
Game’s not the only thing worth seeing in Chobe; arrange for an excursion out to see the ancient San rock petroglyphs or the extraordinary Gametracker baobab trees.
