The melting pot of the Midwest offers down-home comfort food, authentic ethnic cuisine, and Michelin-starred fine dining. The best restaurants in Chicago can range from tucked away wine bars, to bustling gastropubs, to formal tasting menus that need to be booked months in advance.

Chicago restaurants reflect the city’s diversity and richness: on the casual side, there’s deep-dish pizza, beef sandwiches and hot dogs, but there’s also a wealth of restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs, and entire neighborhoods dedicated to certain culinary delights, like Greektown and Chinatown. Avec by Paul Kahan is a perennial favorite, beloved for its creative small plates and curated wine list. Stephanie Izard draws crowds to her Little Goat Diner, and Tony Mantuano’s recently redone Caffe Spiaggia showcases high-end Italian cuisine hard to replicate anywhere in the country.
