One of the first sushi bars in Chicago, Kamehachi was opened by Mrs. Marion Konishi in 1967 and has since expanded to include three additional restaurants. This flagship Old Town location offers multiple dining areas: the main floor, which features the open sushi kitchen; the upstairs, which has a full cocktail bar; and the heated Japanese Garden for year-round outdoor dining. Advanced sushi eaters enjoy signature dishes such as the dragon roll (freshwater eel and cucumber rolled in tempura crunch with avocado and eel sauce), while inexperienced diners can start out with the fully cooked Beginner’s Sushi 101.

Insider Tip:

Although Kamehachi has a BYOB policy, cocktail enthusiasts should opt for the Tokyo-tini, made with ginger, cucumber, acai liquor, and sake.
